In his first book for young adults, bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.

After years of incorporating Alexie’s book, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian,” in the curriculum of classes on campus, Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Dragon Entertainment Group and Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Affirmative Action are pleased to announce Sherman Alexie’s presence on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in Hansen Theatre on campus. He will be giving a lecture based on his beloved book.

Alexie has won numerous awards for his writing and was the winner of the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the 2008 Boston-Globe Horn Book Award, the 2009 International Book on Books for Young People Sweden – Peter Pan Prize, among various others.

Tickets are available now at the MSUM Box Office. Call 218.477.2271 Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. to reserve your ticket. MSUM students, faculty and staff can reserve a free ticket in person with their MSUM ID. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $10.
